Victoria has once again gone into lockdown – an action that has sadly become part of a routine for Victorian businesses and individuals. As always, there has been announcement of relief available to impacted businesses and individuals and here is what is available at this stage: –
- Payments of $3,000 for those businesses that received grants under the Licensed Hospitality Venue Fund. This would cover most bars, restaurants and hospitality premises. Nothing needs to be applied for in this case- if you received the last grant the payment will automatically come through for this grant.
- Payments of $2,000 for businesses that received grants under the Business Costs Assistance Program. This covers businesses in very specific industries that are mostly impacted by lockdown such as non essential retail, hospitality, tourism, event related services, services and education, health care and social assistance. Specifically excluded industry codes are construction, professional services, manufacturing and essential retail. Again these payments will automatically be made to businesses who received payment under the last grant.
- Just like NSW, Victorian individuals will be able to access the increased COVID-19 disaster relief payments and these will apply without any waiting period (i.e. impacted individuals will be eligible from the first day of lockdown). The payment has increased from $500 to $600 for those who have lost more than 20 hours per week of work and from $325 to $375 for those who have lost between 8 to 20 hours per week of work. The recommendation at this stage is to apply for this payment through your myGov account at the end of the first week in lockdown.
